Blackstone’s Chief Legal Officer John Finley recently spoke to Harvard Law students during a roundtable discussion on careers at the intersection of finance and law. In the discussion, Finley spoke about his career path and recent trends he sees in the industry – including the changing role of outside counsel and how that is impacting the responsibilities of in-house legal teams.

Before joining Blackstone in 2010, Finley was a partner at the law firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, where he headed the global mergers and acquisitions group.
The event was hosted by the Harvard Association for Law & Business, and also featured Kevin Buehler, a senior partner at McKinsey, Stacy Selig, a partner at Goldman Sachs, and Harvard Law School Professor David Wilkins.
